As a former military family (Steve and I have 3 generations of military service on both sides), it is disconcerting to me that military recruitment is at a 30-year low. There are so many career opportunities available to high school students that people may not be aware of. Not to mention, it is a secure and honorable career path to pursue while helping to preserve the security of our country.
Here are some career options people may not be aware of:
- Infantry: These soldiers are the backbone of the military, trained for combat on the ground.
- Aviation: Pilots and crew members operate aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters, and transport planes.
- Engineering: Military engineers build and maintain infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and buildings, as well as specialize in demolitions and mine warfare.
- Intelligence: Intelligence officers gather and analyze information to support military operations and decision-making.
- Medical: Military doctors, nurses, and medics provide healthcare services to military personnel and may also participate in humanitarian missions.
- Cybersecurity: Specialists in cybersecurity protect military networks and systems from cyber threats.
- Logistics: These professionals plan and coordinate the movement of personnel, equipment, and supplies to support military operations.
- Special Forces: Elite units, such as Navy SEALs and Army Rangers, engage in specialized and high-risk operations.
- Communications: Military communicators maintain and operate communication systems, ensuring effective communication between units.
- Legal: Military lawyers provide legal advice and support to military personnel, handling military justice and other legal matters.
